China University of Geosciences (CUG) was founded in 1952 as one of comprehensive and national key universities directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education of P.R.China, and is among the first universities joining the national “211 Project”, and “985 Innovative Platforms for Key Disciplines Project” . China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) is situated at the foot of Nan Wang Mountain, with the scenic East Lake by its side, adjacent to national high-tech development zone and “China Optical Valley” in Wuhan. At present, the university has nine disciplines: science, engineering, literature, management, economics, law, arts, education and philosophy, with a distinct focus on geology, natural resources, environment, and geological engineering technology. The university, currently, comprises 21 academic colleges and schools, 62 undergraduate programs, 38 Master's programs, 13 Doctoral programs, 13 Post-Doctoral research stations, 2 national key disciplines, 15 provincial key disciplines, 2 state key laboratories, 2 key laboratories of Ministry of Education,15 ministerial and provincial open laboratories and engineering centers.
Among its 3,200 faculty and staff members, there are 10 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 12 professors of National “One Thousand Talents Program”, 17 professors of “Chang Jiang Scholars”, 13 recipients of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 36 professors of? “ChuTian Scholars” of Hubei Province, 104 recipients of the special governmental subsidy of the State Council. Currently, talents from home and abroad are warmly welcome to work in China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) with the purpose of elevating CUG's academic competitive power, social influence and internationalization in all dimensions, and speeding up the process of building CUG into a world-class university with the strong competitive edge in geosciences.
